Unguja Island
Unguja, also known as Zanzibar Island, is the main island in the Tanzanian archipelago of Zanzibar. Stone Town, a part of Zanzibar City, is an ancient trade center characterized by its mosques and winding lanes. The 1883 House of Wonders, a former sultan’s palace, features a clock tower. The Old Fort, now a cultural center, includes a stone amphitheater. Additionally, the late-19th-century Hamamni Persian Baths were once fed hot water by underground aqueducts.
Pemba
Pemba Island, located in Tanzania’s Zanzibar Archipelago off the coast of East Africa, is renowned for its lush green hills and clove plantations. Separated from mainland Tanzania by the Pemba Channel, the island features coral reefs and abundant marine life. The main town, Chake Chake, is home to an 18th-century fort with a museum. Nearby, Misali Island hosts the Fischer’s turaco, a colorful and rare bird. Pemba Island covers an area of 988 km² and is situated in the Indian Ocean.
Mafia
Mafia Island, part of Tanzania’s Mafia Archipelago in the Indian Ocean, features extensive areas of protected southern coastline and surrounding waters within the Mafia Island Marine Park. This park encompasses numerous coral reefs inhabited by diverse wildlife, including whale sharks and sea turtles. In the island’s southern region, secluded beaches like Ras Kisimani are situated across from Bwejuu Island, while the popular Utende Beach borders Chole Bay. The island’s elevation is 53 meters.
